One-on-one Coaching

Advantages:

One is to one ratio is likely to be very effective in terms focus and concentration. The teacher is able to teach student one at a time. This allows the teacher to readily gauge the student’s level of understanding. In this manner, he can adjust his teaching style and technique. More importantly, he will be able to personally consider the preference of his student and address developmental areas.

Disadvantages:

Private musical tutoring is more expensive as learning is customized. This means that the teacher spends a considerable time to design lesson that caters uniquely to certain individual. Social interaction is limited to one person which makes the students to find the lesson a bit boring especially for student who possesses high need for sociability.

Group Coaching

Advantages:

Learning in group entails more fun and play. It addresses the children’s social needs. The different personalities of the students help them to learn and value camaraderie. The blending of personalities allows them to share and learn from among themselves. It also gives students a sense of belonging that creates strong bond and support that facilitates learning. For example, an older student can teach small ones and can eventually be a good mentor.

Disadvantages:

While in group, the teacher may not be able to thoroughly examine the learning performance of each of his student in a group. This is because students have different learning style and pace. The teacher may overlook some aspects that need to be developed in his students. In group lessons, the class period is squeezed to accommodate more students that teacher’s quality time with students is likely to suffer.
